My workshop tends to leave a few dust particles on the top surface after spraying lacquer.

Today I sanded it off with 1200 wet and dry ... wet ... and polished it with automotive cutting compound and a foam polishing wheel.

Delivery tomorrow ... then on to the next job ... when it suits me.

It it's final resting place after delivery.

The floor, as always, is a little uneven in places. The cabinet was fine sitting in the middle of the room. However, once in position against the wall the floor under it was a bit uneven, and the cabinet rocked on two diagonal legs. The carcass is so rigid it was necessary to slide a thin piece of veneer under one leg so the cabinet did not rock. Nice problem to have.

Was just looking at Wongo's website, and was reminded about one of the great advantages of cabinetmaking, that we create furniture made for the space it will inhabit.

My daughter only had room in her bedroom for a single chest of drawers, so I made one that was seven drawers high. There was not a lot of space for a lingerie cabinet in our bedroom, so one that had a small footprint but was seven drawers high with a jewellery cabinet overhead was produced. My son needed to replace his girls' single beds with bunk beds, complete with safety rails designed for his girls. He got it. It goes on ... we choose the timber, the style and the method of construction.

My daughter wanted a sister cabinet for the Vic Ash unit made many years ago. She got exactly what she wanted. She even got to choose the patterns in the veneer and the knobs. For me, a big part of the joy of cabinetmaking comes when I deliver a piece that cannot be bought anywhere else.
