    Default Extending a console table

    Hi guys!

I hope this is the right place to post this. I don't have much knowledge of woodwork at all, and that will probaly be evident in my question.

I would just like some advice. I've come across a vintage art deco styled console table and the style of it is perfect for my entrance but it isn't wide enough for the niche I want to put it in. At the moment the table is 91 cm wide but I was hoping to extend it to 141cm by adding two 25cm pieces of wood on either end. The table is solid wood (I'm not sure what type of wood) and it doesn't matter about the joins being visible on the top as I want to top it with a piece of marble.

Is there any way this can be achieved?

What about a complete new top with skirted side, that drops over the existing.

I agree with you nrb. The more I think about it the more I wouldn't want to touch the original piece and drill into it etc. I love rustynail's suggestion of a new top that drops over the existing one. Does it need to be fixed or can it just sit on top?

If it is made to be a neat fit over the existing there would be no need to fasten it.
