Floating TV/Bookcase unit
Hi all,
I am about to embark on a tv unit that is hung off the wall , I want it to fit in with the rest of the room which has large thick blackbutt benchtops and chunky blackbutt ballistrade/bar top which requires I make the bookcase out of 300*30 blackbut planks I have. The whole house is on the chunky side with 200x200 posts outside and 150 posts internal for staircase .
The issue I am concerned about is the weight and support on a internal stud wall , I am thinking of securing the centre box to the wall behind the tv unit and having the rest with minimal fixing other than skew fixing into studs where available ( such as the 2 end panels ) thoughs ?

Personally, I wouldn't try skew fixing into pine studs for something heavy and breakable.
I'd open the wall up, add a few short sections (300mm) of pine with a hole drilled to take a 12mm steel bar and do the floating shelf thing with that. At the same time you could drop a antenna/network/power outlet down the wall to hide them behind the TV.

All wiring is already in and the TV is on its own supported fixture , the skew fixing was just a extra to help a proper concealed box fixing behind the TV unit which would be over numerous studs , also one end of the box could be fixed to the adjoining wall.
I am unsure on how much weight can be supported by the stud wall though.
The shelves arent themselves floating unsupported , but the boxes floating on the wall

I don't understand " floating" on the wall. If you look in your kitchen cupboards you'll see hanging rails, why not hanging rails? Tried and true, the screws can be plugged. If you put a back on you can use french cleats and the fixing will be blind.
