WW, quite apart from the fact I'm a featherweight, I have full confidence in a set of judiciously-spaced screws, brass or otherwise. I'd be more concerned about the slats supporting the mattress.....

    Cheers,
Brass screws are for boats and other decorations. If you're a featherweight, you'll probably fare all right.

WW is right from an engineering point brass screws do not have good sheer or tensile strength.

Good grief, how much shear strengh do you want?? I haven't done the calculations, but I think 10G screws of whatever metal placed at 150-200mm intevals would take any reasonaable static (or dynamic ) load a bed might be reasonably expected to cope with!!

Allright, since you are all so clearly concerned about my nocturnal safety, I will use steel, if I can find some suitable steel screws, but I will not use all-threads!.....

    Cheers,
    IW

You're quite right; I was being facetious – with a modicum of disdain thrown in for good measure. Brass screws are normally regarded as decorative or proof against certain corrosive environments. Since, I presume (though I won't begin to understand everyone's nocturnal bedroom activities), you're unlikely to find yourself under the bed examining the fasteners supporting the mattress, is there any reason to use brass screws?

Our local Bunnies (or was it M10... or both?) carry zinc plated conventional slotted steel screws. I'd be happy to send you a bed's worth.

    Cheers,
I didn't look at your age Ian when I posted, I was thinking of a younger person and judging by my own standards (must remember not to do that) seeing that you are starting to get on you will most likely spend your time sleeping so the bed will not get much stress.

No particular reason other than I have lots of 2" 10G brass screws & I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever use them...

I also like brass 'cos they are easy to remove should the ocasion ever arise (not that I can think of a single reason whay they might need to be removed, but you never know... )

    Thanks, WW - I need 22, please.

Just joking - I have a fair supply of steel screws on hand, too. In fact I may well decide to use stee, when I finally attach the cleats & assemhble everything, which looks like being the day after tomorrow, if I can stay on schedule. So I should be able to enter a "done" post, in the next few days.

    Cheers,
