You've got it Wendy; fairing is basically blending two incongruous shapes so they meet more harmoniously The fairing on a motorbike blends machine and rider to make the whole more streamlined.

    Exclamation

I would never have thought of the need to protect the grain above the tennons!

Had I made this I would probably be cursing the quality of the timber as it broke away.

It reall is surprising just how fecund that lemon tree is! Must sit in an absolutely ideal position.

It's lovely to see this having left the flat-pack dimension! Is the rounded of the edges of the sides etc. spokeshaved then scraped/sanded?

Where will you be putting the undies...?

Yes, the edges of the fretwork were shaved, scraped and sanded.

As for the lemon tree, I'm guessing it would be something to do with the quality of liquid it is watered with

Will you be finishing this with BLO, buffing the oil and then waxing? How robust is this finish? As your companion is to be used beside a bed it may perhaps have a hot toddy placed on it . Would the finish stand up to spills .

Yes, it receives a special watering each night just before I retire... and the dogs pee on it all day long.

I hadn't thought about the finish yet, but I probably will oil it.

The oil is very resilient. The wax is sacrificial when used on horizontal surfaces, but can easily be maintained if the owner so chooses.

It will fair a lot better than shellac and won't mark easily.

Default A George II Mahogany Reader's Companion – Part Four

The drawers were made up and fitted today (hence, in the image below, the paler wood of the drawer front which hasn't yet had time to oxidize like the rest of the table).

The drawer linings are of English Oak and constructed per the methods of the period viz. bottoms (with grain running from front to back) glued into rebates in the sides, and runners glued up against the bottoms and the rebated sides. The final task was to rub the drawer stops in place with a little glue.

    The reader's companion in-the-white.

That flat pack has come up rather well. It must have had good instructions. I wonder if they do a Georgian Computer desk

Did he use an Alan Key?
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I´m not so sure about the universe.
