Go bar sticks cut from scrap.
go bar stick clamp - Google Search

Id be using appropriate timber cauls as the 2mm strips will bow without some extra help. If you can get a bit of formply with the black plastic release film on both sides and cut that up for the cauls its fantastic at not getting stuck to things as your gluing up.
Yeah I've thought about the clamping situation and I could wedge 4mm scrap plywood against the shims to hold them in place while the glue dries. I'd use grease proof paper in between to stop them from sticking.

If I was to have false drawer fronts however, I would need thicker shims, I could just screw those into place rather than gluing?.
