help needed, warpped table top. How to fasten it down and keep it all flat??
Hi therecan anyone help? Ive made a 6 seater table out of recycled oregon pine. the frame is 90mm sq. The top is made from 40mm thick 250mm wide 2200mm long planks. The frame is square and sits level on the floor. When i put the top on and screwed it to the frame it would no longer sit level on the floor, it lifts the corner. After inspecting the top i noticed when flat one corner sits up about 15mm. It has been biscuit joined. I tryed putting 2 struts accross the planks but this has not helped??
Cheers, Nathan

Short of a heavy-gauge steel frame, there's probably not much you can do.
Oregon moves a fair bit; the wider the boards are, the more it will move and the thicker it is the less you can do to correct it.

Similar Problem
Letter Head.jpgTwisting wood is very powerful and usually any attempt to pull it straight will, if not immediately ,will eventually go back to its twisted shape. ideally the board should have been buzzed and squared up first and checked for a moisture level of no more than 20%. You only safe option now is if the warp is not to visible is to either shape the frame to fit the twist, shape the base to take the rock out or buy yourself some little adjustable feet. In future if you are contemplating furniture a moisture meter is your best friend.
