Default WIP - Ezycut Combo Mod

Although I am listing this as a WIP, I realise that by comparison to your traditional posting, this may be considered a bit late in the game. The reason for this is that it has been quite a difficult project to engineer. It's not every day you see a sliding table extension that isn't built out of steel and aluminium. I wasn't going to let that stop me though.

Finances and my love for my Ezycut combo don't permit me to add to my collection of machinery at the moment, so I have been nutting out a series of additions and mods for the workshop that will allow me to be more versatile and productive. The sliding table is the beginning.

After 3 to 4 days of toying with various ideas and construction, I have now reached a point where I have a functional design that I just need to tweak and finish off. Hence my readiness to post something in relation to it's progress.

Adding to the challenge of trying to use timber (ply) only, I have tried to keep the design as simple as possible without sacrificing practicality and performance. At the moment I have ticked all the boxes regarding what I set out to achieve and only time will tell as to how successful I have really been.

Any surfaces that come in contact with others have received a liberal coating with finishing wax, which has allowed for a smooth and steady sliding motion. There are some small areas of increased rubbing/friction that interrupt the momentum a little to much for my liking, but I will attend to these.

It is easily removable to regain access to the jointer, and still allows the machine to retain a good footprint. When finished it will allow docks and rips at 1000mm which will do me just fine considering I do all my larger breakdowns with a Hilti saw and rail setup on my assembly bench (another WIP).

So far it has been a rewarding and hip-pocket friendly journey that has utilised offcuts of ply and other odds and sods lying around. Immediate out of pocket expenses would total less than $20 for extra knick-knacks I didn't have on hand. Not bad I reckon, and the returns should be huge.

    Craig.

    Looks like a good setup.
I am also a fan of the old ezycut.
