    Default House Restumping

Hello, we have a weatherboard house in Belgrave Vic. The house is built on slope and we would like to excavate underneath to possibly build a basement, or at least gain more clearance. The house is approx 12m x 9.5m, and there is very little clearance underneath at the front. In one part, one of the bearers is resting on the ground. What we would like to do is excavate under the house, which will require a retaining wall at the front, and restump + replace the bearer resting on the ground. Due to the very low clearance, we realise it may require access through the floor, so we are prepared to pull the floorboards up if required / cheaper. I am wondering if anyone knows of some reputable companies in the Melbourne area who would be able to do this work. If anyone has done anything similar, would love to hear about it. Thanks

    Question

G'day Dan and welcome to the cubby!!

You might be better to join up to the Reno Forums -- see further down the page- as that is the sort of question for them. Many experienced renovators there, with lots of good information and advice.

The software running these forums is amazing. Here is a question about restumping an old house in Melbourne, and just above it is an advert for Reblocking and Underpinning by a Melbourne firm. Got to be a lot of intelligent algorithms at work inside. Good luck with your question when you put it in the Renovation section as artme advised.
