Default Humble side tables - sorry I cheated a little

Here is a set of very simple side tables I just finished as a birthday present for my wife.

The table tops are red oak and the legs Queensland walnut.

I just wanted a simple and easy to execute design. I made the tapered legs and connected them via an uneven hex middle piece.

This way I did not have to deal with getting all angles hundred percent right, compared to glueing the legs to each other directly. They are simple long grain glue ups. I used dowels however to help with alignment and keeping everything in place while clamping.

To connect the table top to the base I made these little brackets and a center dowel helped getting it all nice and centre.

And this is where I cheated. Although I made the legs from scratch directly from rough sawn timber, the tops were ready made round panels from the big green shed. They were just $5 and I thought I will safe myself some hassle. Hope I can be forgiven [emoji6]

It all boils down to how the finished product looks and how well it’s received by the client; it looks good to me and presumably SWMBO is also happy so I’d call it a win!

All the hard work is in the design and build of the legs so congratulations on a great result!
