Default IKEAs "new" leg joining system - Wedge Dowel

Thought this may be of interest - the Wedge Dowel

Story of the Wedge Dowel: revolutiionising the flat-pack industry

Not being a huge fan of Ikea, but liking their overall design, I don't generally buy their furniture... so I may have missed all the hoolpa and announcements.

BUT, I thought this way of joining things was pretty darn amazing.

Check out the way that the stretchers for tables are slapped into the legs. Nice!

The link above has an EXCELLENT video showing the development, styling, making and some of the prototypes.

    Worth watching.

Say what you like about their designs, but from an engineering standpoint they've really got it sorted.

I "stole" their knock-down bed connector (Hafele Maxifix) for use at work and it is hands down the most solid system I've ever seen; zero wobble, zero rattle.
