    Default Small Ironbark crotch table

Just the top atm, I cut this log and a crotch section a few yrs back, this one is one of the outside slices so figure is not as intense as the others towards the center but still a nice bit of pattern, about 1000x500 ish

A very nice slice of timber there Pete, I think figure is sometimes overdone and to me that piece looks just right. I've only done a little bit with Ironbark but I really like the tight dense grain, a classic Aussie hardwood.

Heavy as buggery though! Looking forward to seeing this progress.

    Peter.

    Default Legs

Hi 3TS, it certainly is dense and heavy, it machines nicely as long as cutters are sharp,
I had a board that had a rough edge so I just sliced it up for some simple legs, but they looked a bit too simple so I added some surface treatment to the front edges the same as the edges of the slab and there will be further shaping

I have been builing a mortising machine so I was testing it out on the legs for this table.
To follow the shape of the slab I decided on an angled of 9° between each side, I set the short aprons up at the 9° angle, note the offset.

I set up a twin flip stop to register the ends of the right/left hand legs, I did this so I don't have to re-adjust the travel stops, for 4 legs it's not really worth it but once it's done makes short work of it and I'll use it again

    Default Finished

Apart from a few more coats of oil and 2 screws + buttons tis done
I decided to glue the legs in one hit, being so cold there's a little more time so worked out well, a bit of cleanup, sanding and a coat of thinned linseed oil,
The colour in the pics is fairly close to actual
