    Default James' Desk

Recently told my family that I would continue to make furniture for them, but that in future they would need to meet the cost of materials. Before that edict came into force I wanted to make my eldest son a nice piece as he only had a bed from my workshop. He wanted a desk. Here it is.

The door is on a shop made pivot hinge.

The keyboard tray is on spring loaded drawer runners. Open the door the the keyboard, press the tray and it springs out.

He's hard to please if he doesn't like that.

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

    Thanks guys,

He has not seen it yet ... not finished anyway. Only assembled it this morning. Delivery Sunday.

Forgot ... the timber is NG Rosewood. My son designed it.

Here's a better pic ... taken with a real camera.

    Pete,

Yes it is. I finally finished it.

The vacuum press made that job very easy ... I love it so much I will soon make a bigger bag for the next project. If I ever use cauls and clamps again for veneering, it will be too soon.

    Thanks Wongo,

Coming from you, that is high praise.

Mind you, I know where all the tiny flaws are, but am telling nobody.

My favourite part of the job is the shop made pivot hinge on the door. Works like a bought one.
