Default Japanese Joinery on the SCALE of a HOUSE

This dude on Instagram (Dylan Wakuni) is assisting with the careful pulldown and moving of a traditional Japanese house.

The work is simply beyond belief.

Scroll back some way into his feed to pick it up where he starts and then FEAST on the INSANE joinery present in every single part of this house.

When they started they had NO IDEA the house was in any way special. As they worked on it, it became apparent. I've watched this for a while and it is time to share..... for those not on Instagram (probably a good thing) maybe crate a throw-away account just to watch this guys work.

Thanks for sharing. Absolutely brilliant, Joints still as tight as the day they were first made.

Also really enjoyed watching him make the joints himself - precision plus!

Absolutely facsinating, WP. But if you read a little Japanese history you will find that Japanese joinery may have originated on the scale of temples and castles, and then been "miniturised" for houses and furniture. Traditionally Japanese used very little furniture.

I have seen complex joints like those in material a metre in diameter. Just google "Japanese temple construction"
