    Default Jarrah Entertainment Cabinet

Here's an entertainment unit my brother and I completed recently. I've attached only thumbnails to this post due to the size restrictions, you can view full size images at our gallery here.

The cabinet measures 3080mm wide x 2760mm high. It features a 16mm thick white marble top in the central piece with 4mm glass inserts on the sides. We didn't do the leadlight as we don't have the patience

It's constructed in 2 pieces, with the back panel being removable. It's mostly made of solid jarrah, with veneer used for panel in-fills to keep the weight down. It took us about 4 weeks to complete with the design criteria being to fill an otherwise large but dull room. I think we achieved that

Beautiful Work Mauro, I love the ceiling too, haven't seen one like that for years. How much engineering had to go in to hold it?

Edit: Is that a cut glass staircase!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Groggy. The engineering of the ceilings was down to ensuring the beams above could support the load (we have laminated I-Beams for the second floor there) so that was all good, it then came down to spreading the load across the entire area evenly, so we designed them both such that all individual pieces that form the ceiling interlocked with each other via mortice and tenon or half-lap joints, glued during installation and where possible, screwed also. The ceilings have now been installed for more than 2 years, so we've done a few things right

The stair balustrade has bevelled glass, 8mm laminated. We've since completed the bottom balustrade which rises at 37 degrees, also in the same manner, I just haven't uploaded a pic yet.

I think the screen spoils the beauty of the piece, very nice work indeed

Mauro, nice work but your website made me feel nauseated waiting for the icons to roll around where I could click on them.

Harry, I concur, the next one I make will have one of those fancy tv lifts, it was beyond our budget this time around.

Bob, my apologies, I'll see if I can add a static gallery in the future.

    Beautiful work Mauro!!!

To me the gothic additions are totally superfluous.

Great workmanship . It's got a bit of a religious feel to it. A couple of icons on the back would not lokk out of place.

I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

    Some beautiful work in there.

Would love to see a WIP on any future work if you're able to.
I make things, I just take a long time.

artme, I can understand your view when viewed in this context, but when viewed in it's current surroundings, the Gothic theme blends well.

Peter, a number of people who've seen it have made the church comment, it's natural seeing as how the Gothic theme is closely tied to religious architecture.

Waldo, I thought about the WIP on this one, but due to time constraints I had to forgo it. I'll definitely try and do a WIP in the future.

yeah - was thinking how hard it would be to watch an R rated movie with the religious symbolism surrounds. OTOH one can quickly adapt. It reminds me of going to a brewpub in Ottawa. The setting was an old church. Every second pew was removed and then every second remaining pew turned around to face an adjacent pew and a long table placed between the two. The waitresses wore very short nuns habits and the stained glass windows were replaced by stained glass ads for belgian beers. Twas indeed a cool place.

Wow. I was going to say it looks like an altar but I think that observation has already been made. Good work. It might not look good in a penthouse apartment or Georgian-revival house but if you have the place for it then well done.
