    Default Jewelry Armoire WIP

I hope this is in the right forum...

Finally getting started on this mini armoire for my girlfriend. This project has gone through a number of design changes and complete re-draws, but we finally settled on something. Its definitely unusual but she wanted something unique so here we go.

Materials are walnut and walnut plywood. Door and drawer fronts are yet to be determined. Im letting her pick something exotic that will be the star of the piece. Either fancy veneer or a slab of zebra wood she saw at the lumber yard...if she can wrench the money from me for it!

Heres my carboard mock-up. Because of the odd dimensions i wanted to see it in full size to make sure it looked OK before i started.

Heres my first rip into the plywood for side panels. That first cut into expensive wood is always scary.

Here are the stiles for the face-frame ripped and routered with an ovolo bit.

And here is the radius top of the face frame and radius skirt. They are cut over length and will be fitted later.

Heres my home made circle cutting jig. Its a variation of an idea i found on youtube. It worked like a charm!

This is going to be a long project. More to come!

    Thanks )

I try to stay organized to compensate for being such a scatter-brain.

Lesson of the day...Go easy when sanding veneered plywood. I went through a little bit... (

I have a bad feeling its going to show severely when stained in which case i may have to cut another piece. Doh!

I think it will show through.

Normally if you want to see how the finish will be in the wood you would add water to the surface but I am reluctant to suggest that for the piece that I currently see.

I like your design, good work

Not much you can do with the sand through there......Veneer is getting thinner and thinner. Best thing to do is sand slow, use 180g or higher if using a power sander or simply scrape and hand sand.

Yep, a real PITA. At least it happened before you had it all together
I would replace it too, too late when it's finished. Looking good so far.
