    Howdy Bullfrog,

That's a pretty broad question, but firstly
    welcome to the forum

Perhaps a few pics of the timber and dimensions
would be handy, one of the first things i ever made
in high school was a bow rack, about 30 years ago,
it's still in active duty, so perhaps that's were you start?

Make something with your timber that you'll keep, and
    make it to last.
What you'll find here is a lot of respect for tasmanian timbers
they are some of the most beautiful in the world

    Happy Days

thanks, what is a bow rack?

i have decided to make a couch out of Tasmanaina oak, and save the king billy for either next project or a project in 11/12. theres around 6 metres of it, after thicknessing it would be around 15mm thick. no pics yet

As in Bow and Arrow, used to get into archery a fair
bit, just an occasional thing now.

There's lots of applications for 15mm boards
door panels, cabinet side panels, drawer sides,
boxmaking, laminating, just a few to think about.

6 metres though, are you sure you need that much
maybe you should give me 1/2

    Croak, croak Bullfrog!

In this nanny state regime, I doubt that constable Plod would accept a gun safe made from anything as light as king billy. Thick steel is so attractive!

Until the days of fibreglass, king billy was the timber of choice for making dinghies - it was very light, strong for its weight, rot resistant and it did not split in use. It was also extensively used in window and picture framing, and in model making - the dark strips that you see in half models of ships were commonly king billy.

    Cheers

    Graeme
