Laminated and raised drawer fronts
Yet another chest of drawers will be under-way in the shop in a couple of weeks ... or so.
Plan A is to raise the drawer fronts. However, the latest job looks so pretty with book-leafed, veneered drawer fronts I was thinking of doing it again. Trouble is that I would need veneers at least 5 mm thick so that when the drawer fronts were raised, only the veneer would be seen.
Which leads me to my question. If I put 5-7 mm veneers over solid timber (it will probably be camphor laurel over NG Rosewood, so both timbers are reasonably stable) for the drawer fronts, and glue the veneers on with PU, am I likely to have issues with wood movement if only one side of the drawer front is veneered?
My guess is that I'll be OK. Done similar things before, but with much thinner (2 mm) veneers and the drawer fronts were not raised, so I am wondering if the thick veneers are likely to cause movement problems.
Thanks,
John
