Default Laminating 30 mm blackwood to make 90 mm posts

I have a project requiring 90 x 90 posts, 900 mm long. I have silky oak but the colour is wrong. Can I use 3 layers of blackwood? Is it correct if I cut from a single sheet, I oppose the grains when laminating or just reverse the centre piece, to cancel out warping.

I intended to use HD adhesive to hold the posts during construction, reinforced by dowels during assembly. Does this sound ok?

    Regards

    Hereward

Do the posts have to be solid?
or solid for their entire length?
an alternative is to construct a hollow post (with each face about 20mm thick)

    Hi Hereward,
I have for sale on the Market Place some 105x105 blackwood 1.1 long

Buy them problem solved . Transport to Sydney approx $30 by SmartSend.
If you do not want to do that then you could laminate the 3 pieces of blackwood . I have done that before and then to hide the joins I have cut some veneer and glued it on the face showing the joins and finished by a small bevel at the edges of the posts to minimse the appearance of the edge of the veneer .
    Cheers

Reversing the centre piece will help over come warping. If the timber is backsawn, the outer pieces should be applied to the centre piece by their potentialy concave surface. (Helps to eliminate cracks in outer edge of glue line.)
