Default London Plain Slab Dining Table Ideas

    Hi all,

Ive got a 2.8m London Plain slab for a diving table. There was a bit of rot that I have removed and want to fill with clear resin. How would I go about filling the hole? Perspex on the bottom?

Also going to butterfly join a crack or 2. My first time using butterfly joins, any tips??

    Cheers!!

If you are trying to get a clear resin look, it can be hard not to get any air bubbles. You'll have to attach something like perspex (with a little wax to help remove it after maybe) as you've said to the underside while the resin is poured. Use a blow torch to get rid of air bubbles in the resin. Only poor about 10-20mm or so of resin at a time getting rid of bubbles between poors. For such a large void i'd be more inclined to rebate a 5mm piece of glass into the top (see attached photo for the type of thing i'm talking about for the void). I'd go with plain clear glass though.

In regards to the butterfly or dovetail keys, take your time, make the keys first, transfer a scribe line to the table top and keep within those scribe lines. Test fit as you go and take away small amounts of material. This way you don't end up with gaps from taking too much material out.

What a great idea this is! What a stunning result!

You could also cover the whole top with a sheet of glass... kind of like a top coat... expensive, but these are heirlooms after all....

Delayed response is better then nothing!

Cheers for the ideas & tips, the rebated glass sounds like a good option.

I've just finished building a router slid to level the slab, with any luck I'll get some time tomorrow. I'll post some pics when done levelling
