Felder Hammer Range
Does anyone have an opinion about the Felder Hammer range. I am looking at the combination saw/spindle moulder option. Is it worth the extra over Carbatec equipment?

Probably depends on what you do with it, for backyard weekend use its a luxury brand for professionals its standard sort of stuff.

Probably worth your while to search the forums for feedback. This question has been asked and answered many times before. I have a Hammer combination machine that I bought second hand from a forum member. Because of the limited space I have this suits my needs perfectly, and because I bought second hand the premium I paid above buying a new carbatec combo (or similar quality) was less. The difference in quality is mainly around the robustness, reliability and accuracy, although like most tools accuracy is more about how you set the tool up. The machine I have is very robust and very reliable. Definitely exceeds my skill levels, but I'm confident it will last me a lifetime and will still be going to hand on to my kids.

Man v Machine
Thanks for feedback. I have been very careful with a Bosch saw, considered to be one of the best. I could not get 8 pieces of timber EXACTLY the same length. Not good enough for what I want, I cant have wobble in a saw.

I assume you are looking at the Hammer range. From my experience they are excellent in terms of quality and reliability. Hammer/Felder also have excellent backup for their machines. The saw /spindle moulder combo is something I would like to get at some stage.
I am told by those who have one that the sliding table is used for everything, including ripping timber. The sliding table is also invaluable for the spindle moulder. There is also a high speed option available to use your router bits at small router speeds.

Dado cutters
[Do you have the Felder Dado cutter mechanism. Do you use Felder brand cutters or another brand?

I have a Hammer saw/spindle and can't fault it. I bought mine second hand but I believe that if you buy new you can specify it to be suitable for dado blades.
Hammer gear is pretty good. Like anything, if you set it up right it will work well. Good rigid fences, not as heavy in construction as Felder but the price is commensurate with quality as far as I'm concerned. I particularly like the rearward tilting spindle. Much safer than a forward tilt I reckon.
