Maintain Silver ASh Colour in Finishing
Hello
I have done some work inlaying Blackwood into Kauri Pine and Finishing with Organoil.
The finish is very striking.
I have done the same thing using Silver Ash into Blackwood using Organoil.
The results are identical ie; the Silver Ash is the same colour as the Kauri Pine, what I would describe as Pine yellow.
Does anyone know of something for interior and exterior furniture that would maintain the white appearance of the Silver Ash?
Many thanks
Regards
Hereward

Hi Hereward,
Silver ash will yellow when oiled, and when exposed to sunlight. A finish applied over, rather than absorbed into the wood will tend to maintain that white/silvery lustre but needs to be clear itself. Talk to floor finishers as the newer water-borne polyurethanes do this but you will have a different lustre to the oil finishes. Hope this helps.
