If you want Sam Maloof's chairs then there are no plans available in the market. I built 2 without a plan. I got the technique from watching his DVD and reading his book.

you can also see plans produced by a forum member.

    named Rocker.

I expect he will be along when he sees your thread.

My plans are for a rocker with an upholstered seat - you can find a link to them on my blog below. If you want plans for a solid-wood-seated rocker, the only ones available are by Hal Taylor, which cost US$275, about seven times the cost of my plans.

    Thanks guys,
i have had a look at rockers web site, i'm sure the plans would be a good starting point to making a solid timber seat one.
i will also go back to my copy of the maloof biography, i'm sure another few hours studying it won't go astray.
this forum is great, i love what you have done.
Also i've got a few boards of 1 1/2" do you think that it would be suitable to make the chair, or would it be more suitable to get some 2" boards?

I think you really need some 2" timber, if you are to get sufficient curvature on the back rails; and you will probably need some for the arms and legs as well, although you could get away with laminating them, perhaps.
