Marri Headboard Breadboard?
Hi Brains Trust,
I'm in the process of making a queen size bed from Marri.
The frame consists of 40mm solid panels for the head and foot boards. Head board below.
I've noticed a gum vein that runs nearly the width of the head board, visible in the middle of the photo below.
The panel isn't load bearing at the point in question. My question is, should I breadboard the ends for structural strength as below, or can I get away with leaving them as they are? Visually, I prefer not to breadboard the ends, but will if needed. What do you think?

I'm a fan of breadboards myself, tidies up endgrain nicely.

It feels like I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but I've resumed work on my new bed after a lengthy break from woodworking to work on the front garden of my new house.
I decided to use the breadboard ends, with the results shown below for the head and foot boards.
Not much of the build left to go now, and I'll post the results here as I go.
There's some pretty speccy timber in this bed and I hope to be able to capture it in the posts.

Well here is the finished product.
Iím really pleased with how it came out. This is my first time using the Mirotone two pack poly, and I love how it shows off the grain. Some more photos below.
Thanks for looking,

That has come up a treat. Really love that rustic solid timber look which you will never see in an off the shelf piece of furniture nowadays. Considering what your timber looked like in those initial shots, the end result is very specy.
Funny, I was just thinking about you today when I was using the 5 1/2 plane I brought off you a couple of years ago.Cheers,
