Default Marri Slab Tv Unit Done!

before start anything... Massive Massive thanks for you guys who helps me on the previous thread regarding to those questions about the joint!!
i don't have a proper workshop, i don't have big machine, i don't have expensive tools and machinary, the only thing i know is to find the right stuff at the right time and the right price! i'm a student that major in law, but, i think wood workings are much more fun ...
i got an Ozito 1200w circular saw, $15 hand saw, clamps from gumtree ($10 each), work bench (it's actually a junk on the road side that you won't even look at it, it's jarrah tho), Ozito Belt sander (80 grit - 120 Grit), Orbital Sander (160 - 180, and 400 grit) 2x(1 litre) 2 parts epoxy resin from welshpool, and Tung oil!

i was moving house so i rented a truck from budget, then, i picked up this piece of wood that i'd bought couple weeks agi, was a bigger one and wider, and longer, but because of the weight and i lack of handy man around me, i can hardly lift that up, so, i picked this piece and bring it home. good thing, very nice guy, o ya, call this man, Chris, 0427990648, please DO NOT call if you are a tyre kicker or low ballers, this is a man i much respected, only if you're genuinely want to get a Marri slab then you give him a call, trust me, cheapest in town man, $250 for my slab. but because of mine was the smallest and got the ugliest edge, normally around $300 - $350 - $400?? my slab is 3.5M x 1.1M x 65mm. if you can find anything cheaper than this let me know.

as i told you guys, i've totally lack of mates and handy man around me (how weird is it to ask your friends to come to your house, lift a piece of heavy wood, and ask them to go home? i can't afford to buy them food all the time ..) was thinking to make this into an outdoor table, but because of the weight, i gave up, cut it into half and making it into Tv unit. Massive thanks to Acardian Concept Owner, gave me his advise on the joint that i wanted to do so badly.

allright, now i got them sanded down to 120Grit, then applied epoxy resin.. omg man... highly features = lots of holes!!! the worst thing is most of the cracks and holes are linked both side. quite a bit of resin wasted at the time. just a question, what sort of tape you guys used best for sealing the holes to avoid leakage? i find ductape is the best, but not good enough tho... leaks too!! anyway. all done perfectly in the end...
and.. i felt so poor now hey. look at how i cut the triangle piece out... my circular saw only reached 4cm in depth, out of 65mm depth.. have to use handsaw to cut it off... plus... because of that... uneven edges... lots of work after that.. to make it flat

u know how i cut the big piece of wood in half? the other side will be the second level of the tv unit, just didnt show in the pictures.

rainy day.. no shed.. no workshop. i used bins bag from woolies for $2.50, tape it together make it a big piece of plastic to cover it... to make sure they don't get wet! it takes years to dry out!!!

allright.. time to choose the coats... looking around in bunnings, searching around in forums.... what should i apply on my tv unit? than i found what i really want, matt finish!! so i go for tung oil, harden, water proof, moulds proof.. whats more? apply around 12 coats of it.. takes me 2 weeks to do that.. bloody weather, humids and cold and rains! anyway, sanded down to 400Grit every 6 coats, very very smooth to touch ... my missis starts to like ... wow OMG.. the color is so nice!

Nice job there Jovian, food for thought too. It would be good to see the intermediate steps where you did the end jointing.

    Looks fantastic!

Is there any trick with the joints? Or is it just cutting it on a 45' angle, and using dowel to glue them together?

I like how the grain continues through the edge!

yup, you've to cut them to 45'... u cut the slab like this : |____/\____|, the triangle part is the part you've to take out. then i use resin glue, it sticks really well and also fill up any spaces in between. also, most important part, is to make sure the joining edges are perfectly straight and joinable.
