Thread: Melamine thick plastic edging-where to buy?

Whilst digging around some time ago (I have a Conturo on my wishlist), I found this site: CV Edging - PVC

I have not done any business with them, but only because Santa hasn't given me my Conturo yet

I assume you have the required kit to apply it?

The edging in the photo looks like T edge I bought some years ago from Galvin Hardware, It is not very popular these days, Laminex have the standard ABS edging

In Sydney I use trademaster.com.au. They sell it by the metre. I am not sure if they ship or have a Brisbane branch.

Yeah, that's just 2mm ABS edging, search for that and you'll find a whole bunch of places, one of them will be near you.

It doesn't come with rounded anything, you buy a roll of it (if you're lucky you might find a 50m roll, it's usually 100m), glue it on, then trim the edges flush/round.

I would highly recommend finding a local cabinet maker who'll run your parts through their edgebander instead of doing it yourself. Aside from the huge quantity of edging you have to buy, doing it by hand is a massive pain; it can be done, but I really don't think you'll enjoy it.

Ok, so how do you stick it down if you insist on doing it manually? I only have about 4 meters to do, and a stupidly high resistance to frustration.

Contact glue, then clean up with a trimmer; looooots of plastic chips everywhere lol (unless your trimmer has a vacuum port) and the bearing on the bit will need to be periodically freed from the cocoon of semi-tacky contact glue that gets wrapped around it. Some places sell it pre-glued, which is activated with a hot air gun directly to the glued side; I don't know if it would work with an iron or if you just end up with melted plastic all over.

I guess it's not so bad for a little job, but I certainly wouldn't choose to do it regularly. Maybe I've just been spoiled with machinery
