Default Monastery Trestle Table from Jarrah

Nice new shiney project. A 3.3 x 1.1 trestle table from Jarrah. The client asked for it to be rustic but to define the amount of rusticity is sometime tricky. I was still a little unsure until today what level I needed so today I said, would you like it to look like it's just come out of an old monastery, OH YES, was the reply, BINGO and I have a target. Some shots of the trestle legs from stock timber, Mal delivers the top slabs on Tuesday.

Another couple of pics from this afternoons efforts. The second leg has been glued up, Monday will see the joining rail between them cut and dry connected. Sanding and aging will then start.

Nice big solid hunks of timber.......guess the tops will be proportionately as thick too.

Easy finish too, in keeping with the style?

    Hi CH,

This is going to be a good one, 3.3 metres long. Front row seat, another beverage, I am set.

Let the work carry on. This table top, if it is your normal thickness is going to be a bit on the heavy side CH. How are you going to manage moving it about and turning it?

I would give you a hand,.. but this chair is just too comfortable.

    Cheers
    Pops

Hello lounge lizzards, Big W the finish will most likely be Danish with a splash of stain mixed in maybe. Client wants bullet proof and not too shiney. I'm happy with that, easy to put on, no drama, love it.
Oh yeh Pops, heavy it will be, I will leave the top in two pieces I think, she doesn't mind the idea of a join down the middle. I can fit the cross rail to the legs on site and then drop the slabs on top. All sounds good when you say it fast Top slabs will be around 80 -90kgs each I think.

CH this should be interesting in many ways

I gather you spent time in the Monastery in your younger years

The weight of the table tops shouldn't bother you after all the ANZACS you should be used to lifting that sort of weight.

Hey Guys, had the day off today to rest up ready for the big slabs. I do enjoy a challenge. The Cedar work has made me lazy I think, it's so light and easy to work. Oh well, back to the real world.
Did a bit of work on the veggie garden, went and saw the Archibald exhibition, some very nice work in there this year. The painting of Margaret Olley really is something special though.
Me and monastic life wouldn't gell I don't think Ray. I'm way too saintly I think.

    Looking good.
Are you having any kind of direct support under the slab? or is it just going to span that gap?
Those were the droids I was looking for.
