Default Morris chair - My first project

I know now that my first project should have been smaller, easier and or may be on a softer wood, but my enthusiasm got the better of me! I'm sure you understand .
Having no experience in wood working, this forum is a treasure trove of knowledge - thanks to all of you! I did spend a lot of time on YouTube as well, as I was predominantly using hand tools. Having bought oversize timber(makore & Fijian mahogany), I can well and truly say, I did some planing. The timber is beautiful but the makore did work my sinuses and blunted tool edges. I did buy a triton saw from a forumite mid way through the project to break down the wood, as hand sawing was terribly slow for me (I think it's the saw, more than anything). I also used a router for grooves in the arm rest, everything else was hand tools.
Before the next project, I plan on building a few jigs, to make things easier! Learnt a lot from this project, having made (quite) a few mistakes, but I'm quite happy with the outcome.

Thank you. The finish is called Treatex, wax n oil blend, mainly used for floors. I was experimenting with tung, linseed, poly, etc, but it kept darkening. This kept some of the pink hues in, and I really liked it.

It's the journey not the end result that counts sometimes, keep at it and always choose a project that will develope new skills or challenge old ones.

It's your first project and you did it mostly with hand tools??

Something to be proud of indeed.

I was keen to learn the hand skills and this has helped tremendously! And I've caught the fever I suppose, keep looking and buying more planes...
