When I was about 4, I lived in a small mining town in FNQ. (Mt. Mulligan). At some stage a house was being built next door, and I used to go across and the chippies would do the same thing. They'd also give me a a tin can and get me to scrape the loose dirt out of the holes for the stumps. A few years later the mine closed down and all the houses were transported by rail to Collinsville.
A couple of years ago I visited the now ghost town. Found the location of our old house, with only concrete steps remaining, and the concrete stumps of the house next door still standing after nearly 60 years. Guess I did a good job.

Now the granddaughter knows how and where wood shavings come from! One of Oliver's older sisters (he is one of 6) is always chasing after wood shavings. She has a guinea pig! Now while I'm not a lover of rodents of any kind, I cannot in conscienced deter her from having the pet, so we keep all the wood ahavings from the planer/jointer.
Consequently, each time we make the 330km (one way) trip to visit, the cruise is loaded to the gunwhales with bags of shavings.

It must have been quite nostalgic going back to the old ghost town after some 60 years, yet perhaps in a way rewarding that something YOU had created was still
remaining.
