    Default Newbie making pine bookcases

hi all i am a newbie in the SE suburbs of melbourne

i am looking to make some pine bookcases to match some that i bought when i moved in....

they will need to be quite chunky

this is my first major project but i am looking to work my way up to making a welsh dresser and a dining room table and chairs as i improve.

my biggest issue at the mo is that i sized up the wood needed to make my chunky 1800mm x 900mm bookcase it was going to cost me 300 bucks from bunnings just for lumber!!

(looking for 350-400mm of shelf depth which ended up being 2 pieces of timber from bunnings jointed together as the widest they had in chunky length was 240mm)

does anybody have any ideas were i can source some half decent timber?
    recycled doors maybe?

i will be making the end product look distressed to match my other furniture so it doesnt have to be the highest possible grade timber...

i live in chirnside park victoria!!

many thanks for all of your help and advice

    Darren
