Looking good Pappy.
I'll be watching this one come together from the shady spot under the tree over there. Those were the droids I was looking for.

So far so good Pappy, looks to be a serious size table with a bit of weight to it.
The time we enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

.
Thanks Chaps,
Obtained a number of old regum fence posts for the legs and a centre rail.

Run then through the jointer/saw and sander, checked out for the side rails and morter for the end rail (first try at this)

Checked and tapered the centre rail.

Hope to get the top together today.
I am open for ideas what finish to use on it, will bw under cover but will get a lot of sun. Not sure if a clear would work?

Looks like you have a fair job ahead of you there, I have a table that is partially in the sun and have used Sikens cetol neutral decking UV on it as a base coating as it was the only product I could find that is UV rated, it seems to be holding up fine without any bleaching from the sun, it can be brushed on then wiped down with a clean rag to give a very smooth finish ready for your top coat of varnish or whatever you choose to use, I used glasscoat, but that would give you a high gloss finish, will be watching with interest.

I love the look of the red gum, but I'm sure that I wouldn't want to sling it around

Hi Pappy,
You seem to be a quick worker. I can sympathise, once i get an idea into my head i just have to get it done.
The table is looking good. Let us know how you end up finishing it. I did a table recently from some recycled bowling lanes (a lot of effort to clean up) which are rock maple. I finished it in danish oil but it has since been tarnished by some iron oxide/potassium weed killer that the wind carried onto it . So i will have to re-sand and re-finish at some stage in the near future. I'm not entirely convinced the danish oil will work well in the long term as my table is exposed to the sun quite a bit too with little to no rain. I would prefer to put on something that's easy to apply, not a real fan of poly type finishes as i prefer a satin finish to a gloss, also i prefer to keep the grain exposed so it feels like wood not plastic. Anyway i'm rambling, looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.
Mat.

moving along nicely, got both end rails fitted and the legs ready to attach. ( not 100% sure how to fix the legs at this time, screw from inside/bolds/screw from outside?)
The dragon wants it sort of "rustic", but I see how we go as it gets closer to finished.
dhubilant - the "cetol" sounds and looks the goods, it appears to be a bit on the exy side at @$180 for 5 lts at Bunnings, but it might be worth it if it lasts longer than normal deck oil.
