Default All from a pack of Blackbutt decking

So I recently took on a job to fit out the cafe section of a day care centre.
The client sent me photos of some of the things she was after and we came up with a plan.

I found it very hard getting the quantity and the quality of the Blackbutt feedstock I needed within her deadline until I stumbled across a pack of 86x19 Blackbutt decking that was all 6.0m lengths!!!

I re-milled into v-joint panelling, tongue and groove boards and some square dressed for the doors and bent laminations and here's what we came up with.

Thanks Justin, it was touch and go if I was going to have enough left to make the two benches but I got it done with about 800mm of scrap left over.

    Default Impressive work

Wow! That is an impressive project. A lot of work machining the timber before construction began, but well worth the effort.
I'm sure the client would have been very satisfied with the finished job.

    Awesome work.

The timber looks great. I bet it was lots of work but well worth the effort.

Thank you for all of the feedback. The tops and vertical panelling were all made by first lining all the carcasses with 18mm particleboard (vertical) and 33mm particleboard benchtop blanks for tge tops then overlaying the Blackbutt wuth 23ga pins and Bostik Ultraset glue.

Then I belt sanded at 80/120 for about 2 days and orbital sanded at 120/180 for about another 2 days then water based urethane x 3 coats.

I couldn't so much as hold onto a glass of water for about 4 days after it was done and the adrenaline left me.

That made me chuckle. Still, it was all worthwhile as it's a fantastic job.

You sure cut it fine with only 800mm leftover .

Thank you, yes I was pretty beat up when it was all done but that wasn't so much of a problem as when the client thanked me profusely, told me it was wonderful dealing with me then ended with, "costs have blown out, we've run out of money and can't pay the remaining invoices ($10,000.00 worth) until we get enrolments and start earning a profit then we'll pay a little each week."

that was October, I'm still waiting.

That's an awesome task in getting everything done. I can see the effort that you put into this job.

I hope the client starts paying you, a gentle reminder might be needed.

I had a similar situation with a large extension to a house, they made the progress payments with no problems but i had to wait for the final for 6 months because they spent the rest on a holiday over seas. I did get it in the end, fortunately in 1 lump sum, not trickling in like a leaky tap
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Cheers
