Default Pair of small coffee tables

My youngest son was sitting in my lounge a week ago when he pointed to the pictured coffee table and asked if I would make him a pair to the same design but in NG Rosewood to match the other pieces made for him.

Fortunately, I keep all templates from past jobs so getting the design right was easy. First I started making the legs.

Not really cava, We retired types get to fool around in the workshop on most days. That helps. Also, these tables are not difficult to make. I dreaded my first cabriole legs, but was surprised at their simplicity. These legs took about an hour each to make, including final sanding.

Next job looks like being two bedside tables for my eldest son ... but he wants to make them so we wait until he can get into the shop for at least a full weekend. Here is one of my favourite pieces, a mobile butchers block my eldest son made seven years ago.

That butchers block looks awesome - your son did a great job.

I may be wrong but that looks like Camphor Laurel blocks to me, which would give a wonderful smell during use.

    You are quite right, George.

The cabinet is NG Rosewood, but the block is camphor laurel. He took a veneer off the block and put it on the lower shelf so they are a perfect match.

No, Eager Beaver. The two outside tables are in camphor laurel.

This butcher's block can be a hoot. It's on castors, but they are concealed by the skirt that is only 2mm off the ground. It looks like it's sitting on a base. People walk into my son's kitchen and try to lean on it ... and very nearly go base over apex.

Another small coffee table, this time in silver ash.

Very pretty timber. Shame it's so scarce.

I just started doing the legs on my coffee table, no where near as lovely as them, though it is a very different design, all the same WOW!.
