Past Project
Hi guys, as a newcomer to this great forum (and to woodwork) I thought I'd post a pic of a previous pine coffee table I made to show where my interests lie, and where my skill level (or lack of) is at.
She's a bit rough but still a project I was proud of, and something that was relatively easy to make.
I apologise for the picture quality and messy background (kids had a "sleep-over" and turned the lounge room into a bedroom).

These next few shots are of my first WIP since getting my workshop up and running (finally!). I'm turning a door I've had lying around into two coffee tables. Again, she's a bit rough, but we all have to start somewhere.

I'm adding a pine box to the end of the table where it was cut to be used for board game utencils, pencils for kids etc etc..
These two shots are the "nerve centre" and canvas of great things to come - I hope!

The shelves were the real first project as it gave me the space on my workbench to get things started. Its not exactly the "bee's knee's" of workshops, especially compared to some of your workshops out there, but its my workshop and some where to start. I plan on putting up a tool hanging piece of ply next, so stay tuned for more pics.
Feel free to throw your tuppence worth in for any ideas and comments - its ok, I've got broad shoulders!
Cheers
Greg

Welcome to the forum! However, I fail to see how the table is in any way 'rough'! I think you've done a great job, and it seems most home in the
kids bedroomlounge. Keep up the good work.Cheers, Richard

Thanks for comments guys.
Yes BobL I see your point . I guess the newly installed smoke detector wouldn't have much effect after the roof was blown off .
The potential hazards are now safely tucked away where they should be .

Coffee table looks good, an interesting design too, is that your own? The workbench looks interesting too. I've never seen steel brackets used for that application before. Do they work well?

Well done Nursey!

Thanks BB, unfortunately I can't lay claim to the coffee table design. It was taken from a design for a workbench which I altered slightly to make into the coffee table. I liked the idea and look of the "through mortise" joint using the wedges. Its very sturdy and ads character.
As for the steel bracketed workbench - this was a cheapy slap together job I've had for ages. It makes for a good assembly table, however I wouldn't use it for any serious stuff (too small and light).

I'm pretty sure I meant "matey", not "marry". I was using my mobile when I sent the previous post. OOPS!

Agree with an earlier post, doesn't look rough to me. Very nice. Through mortise gives it charm for sure.
How'd you finish the table?

Here's the latest WIP (not PIW!) shots. As mentioned earlier, an old door has been cut to size, and I've added a couple of boxes on either end using some pine I've had lying around.
The base pieces were cut from again, old bits of pine lying around, and assembled using dowel joints, PVA and sash cramps.
At present I'm still staining/varnishing before I put the top onto the base (easier to do it now then after the top's on), then I'll put the lids on the boxes and a shelf on the base of the table for magazines etc etc...
Cheers
