Default Plans for a hall bench

I'm looking for some plans that I can adapt for a hall bench that’s simple with arms and a padded seat. No storage, and must look like a refined bit of furniture. I'm at the planning stage for this project and it will live in the bedroom, I just can’t bend down and do up my shoes like I used to but have no problem if I sit and do them up.

Yes, auscab, but with the arms not upholstered, more with slats and more curved, but yes, the right idea.

    Default some more ideas

    from fine Woodworking's archive

https://www.finewoodworking.com/1998...or-all-seasons you would need yo add a padded seat and might want to slim the arms and legs a little

https://www.finewoodworking.com/2001...ttee-in-cherry adding a padded rather than woven seat would be straight forward, as would adding straightish arms (just lengthen the front legs). Curved arms would be a little more complex, but doable.

https://www.finewoodworking.com/2008...e-garden-bench for inside use I'd make the legs and rear crest rail a little lighter in section, but the bones are there.

https://www.finewoodworking.com/2015...oden-waterfall perhaps a single seat chair instead of a bench?

I have the 2016 edition of Fine Woodworking's archive which contains all the above articles. If you would like to see one, please let me know before Saturday.

a useful search term is "settle"

Hi Ian, thanks for the trouble you have gone to. I'm after something like your first post but no back and the arms curved outward.

    you know what ??

what you want are plans for a sleigh bed.

    Make the legs slightly longer,
reduce the long rails by about half -- with a corresponding reduction in rail depth
reduce the foot and headboard rails to about 1/3rd that required for a bed, with a reduction in the depth of the rails

and you will have of bench with outward curving arms.

Hi Ian, good work, this is more of what I am thinking, I can adapt this style I think to get what I want. I think you like the challenge of hunting this down.

Yes, it's your image that does not copy and paste. The pic should be the last one from your post numbered 9. Sorry to hear about your ankle but I guess that’s what you get for abandoning us and going over to Canada
