Thread: Plate display cabinet

Made this for my mother-in-law. Earned some brownie points.
Also made an attempt at a humourous poem to go with it.

SAGA OF THE PLATE DISPLAY CASE

A lady up old Belbrook way,
Created quite an affray.
This lady of renown,
Had a challenge cast down.

Said she – “My friend Les B made these plates to be seen.”
“Which kin will make a display for my plates to keep them safe and clean?”
Son in law number one replied – “I’ll take up that task.”
“If only to make it higher up the caste.!”

With thoughts of earning brownie points quite substantial,
He set about planning something very exceptional,
To accomplish this feat as he knew he could,
He beat a hasty retreat to the hefty stash of ‘family’ wood.

With big bad Bevan watching down from his heavenly heights,
The plan for construction kept Lyle awake for many nights!
New tools bought, last minute changes wrought,
I hope it all doesn’t count for naught!

With thoughts of brownie points asunder,
My mind begins to wander.
Suddenly the router bites my right index finger!
How on earth do I keep the claret of the bloody timber!

Plenty of changes, this piece is too short for that,
This job is difficult, almost like herding a cat!
Timber must be dressed and re-dressed,
I’ve got to finish this job, I am oh so stressed.

The sawdust has settled, the glue has set, the last coat of lacquer dried.
It is now time to put it up and show it off with pride.
Plenty of blood sweat and tears, I thank God the job is finished
But how the hell do I explain why the ‘family’ stash has so diminished!!!
