Thoughts please on tapered legs
I am in the process of making a couple of side tables. I first started a couple of years with a design in mind and got as far as machining up the legs before other projects overtook them.
Well they are now back at the top of the to-do list and I have a new design. The new design has tapered legs, something I have never tried before. It calls for 30x30 legs. My original plan was for 40x30 legs. Obviously I could just cut the 40 back to 30 but what are your thoughts on tapering rectangular material rather then square?
Thanks

Sounds to me like a question of taste. If so, there is no correct answer.
Generally, my tapered legs are square. I have had tapered legs from rectangular material a few times. From memory, all of them tapered on one side only, on the inside of the leg such that the toe was square. However, there are no rules. Something either looks nice or it does not, and we all know that with design you are likely to get a variety of opinions.

Not much help but I agree with John's thoughts.

Basically what John Samuel says its a matter of what you like the look of. Best advice is draw a couple of pics to see what you like. For my 2c worth if its a squarish table that will be viewed from all angles then square legs double tapered to a smaller square foot. If its a long rectangular table mainly viewed from the long side then rectangular legs single tapered to a square foot. How high up the leg the taper goes also affects the look.

John
