    Default Project - Adirondack chair

Last summer I decided that I needed a deck chair for our coastal property and sought the collective wisdom of the forum. The pretty much unanimous opinion was an adirondack chair. After looking at the leads provided I decided on what seemed to be a good design. Somehow or other the months disappeared and it is now spring so I have finally made a move. I am going with celery pine for the frame and huon for the seat slats, back slats and arms.
Today I started looking through my stocks to get the most appropriately sized timber and of course what I wanted was not on top or at the front so much timber had to be moved before I was happy with the sizes needed.
After that here is what I ended up with. It seems like a lot, undressed, but is what the bill of materials lists. I have already dressed the board for the side rails.
If all goes well I am sure that my wife will want one as well!

So today I finished dressing the timber and made the templates for the arms and sides. The stack is noticeably diminished.

I made mine from recycled wine barrels, that being said a footrest is needed and hell will freeze over before you get tired of resting your posterior ligaments in this style of chair.

It has been a few weeks since I have been able to get down the coast to my workshop but fortunately but able to do so this weekend. In amongst all the other things I had to do I was able to make and fit the back slats as well as machine up the arms and supports which I will fit next weekend. Then only some light sanding to finish off. I must admit that it is very comfortable.

The final instalment - it's finished! Now the wife wants one but she wants the seat higher so some modifications for V2 plus she also wants wheels so that she can stay in the sun or shade depending on the weather so I will be seeking guidance for that. I also have a heap of Tas Oak boards that I will use for hers, so no huon or celery.

If you add wheels, then the seat will be higher .....

I would like a method whereby the wheels drop down for moving and swing up when not required.

install a small motor into 1 axle, then when she falls asleep you can quietly move it down the street.
