Putting bed back together
I took apart my bed and put brackets, bolts and nuts together. After 10 years storage I'm setting it up again but I'm stumped.
Yes there are too many holes in the legs of the frames BUT none of the holes go all the way through for the bolts. Does that perhaps mean that the original bolts were made of wood and screwed into the frame and the black brackets (4) were held onto the frames by wooden screws? I'm attaching photos to explain further. I know I had it set up once but it escapes me how. Last 2 photos show that the holes are clearly there but clearly do not go all the way through! Any suggestions please?

Hi;
From what I can see the brackets should be attached to the legs using 4 woodscrews; probably around 12 gauge. The large round holes are a bit confusing though; are they smooth sided or do they have internal threads? At a guess I would say they would hold a dowel that the bracket can slide over to provide additional support for vertical loads.
I would also say those bolts are not required unless they are used to bold the bed side frames to the brackets.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

By the look of the previous marking on the timber those brackets are not the correct brackets, I think the brackets pictured are for mounting a Headboard to a ensemble type base

Never thought of some dowels, yes the large holes are smooth sided. Thanks yes I also have some other screws to attach the brackets to legs but it didnt seem enough, guess I'll have to acquire more. I know some of the bolts are used on the supporting beams which hold the mattress/base. Thanks for replying.

Thanks China, I figured they weren't the original brackets but I did have the bed together (somehow) with these brackets. I'll try dowels as Chief Tiff suggests. Thanks for replying.

Those brackets will not hold the weight of rails and a mattress, they are not designed to they will break.
