Qld Black Wattle TV Cabinet
G'day
Long time lurker first time poster. I just finished this Qld Black Wattle TV cabinet. The design is pretty closely based on something I saw online here, the guy makes some nice pieces, hopefully he sees my imitation as flattery. I used Claw Hama’s finishing schedule and think it worked a treat. The dovetails are cut using a Veritas guide which makes it virtually fool proof. The back and sliding doors are old VJ’s from a demolition yard. Thanks to all the people who post, there is some great information on this site.
After looking at the photos I think the next job is to paint the house.Last edited by Dan P; 24th July 2011 at 12:17 PM. Reason: Typo

Looks excellent - the Veritas dovetail guide is still cutting by hand isn't it - not routed?
A question about the timber - Queensland Black Wattle? Is that Australian blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon) grown in Queensland?

Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah the Veritas dovetail jig is a hand cut set up. You clamp a magnet guide sort of device to your work piece and then can cut with any kind of saw without a 'spine'. The hard part is chiselling out the waste.
As for the species of timber I can't help you? I originally asked for a quote for Tasmanian Blackwood and the good folks at Lazarides gave me prices for that plus a few other species and I went for the wattle. Pretty honest sort of wood. I always thought Qld wattle was a scrubby sort of coastal timber but that shows what I know?

The dovetails set the corners off nicely, and the depth of colour in the wood looks really great
