Humble apologies, some of the progress was a little drole I thought and I had been getting caught up in other stuff that slowed progress. I got all the frame cut, glued and screwed, cut some 200mmlong blocks of Tallowwood for legs (size and colour is perfect). I got a couple of coats of FW Floor Fisnish on the frame. I picked up the last Mango slab from Mal on Wednesday morning at Hexham. This has now been cut into the four side shelves. These were then flattened and smoothed, cut the tenons and morticed the bed head. Everything on this monster will be removable so even the shelves will slip into the mortices and then have a coach bolt and large washer (ply maybe) to pull it into the joint snugg. This Mango is fantastic looking timber, the headboard and the shelves with the splashes of dark wood will be amazing I think. The clients called in for a look yesterday and went nuts over it, they just can't wait for me to fiish it.

I saw a beautiful bowl turned out of Mango on Wednesday.
Life throws us a few side tracks CH just to make sure we are still awake.
We have been able to see Christos finish his stand as an interim.

Lookin' good
Lookin' good
like the shelves
Just wondering to myself, would a thin band (say 1 or 2 mm) of some dark timber in the join, highlight the piece or make it look tacky
Don't get me wrong, I like it like it is.
How are you going to keep it together? Is that a job for the posts?regards

Hey guys, this Mango is so beautiful, can't wait to get some finish on it. The side shelves will look like you have spilt a cup of chocolate on them and its dribbled over the edge. Lots of smaller fine feature in it as well. Very interesting timber in large sections. I want more. I think once other people see the bed I will be getting more orders for Mango furniture.
Hi nick, no posts but I am going to have a couple of braces that run up the back, they will brace and hold it together. Once the bedding is on you will pretty much not see the joint so I don't realy want to make a feature out of it. It should be behind the pillows and you will only see the ends a little.

Feel free I'm sure I'll be here. Just give me a call first to make sure I haven't abandoned ship.

The top head slab had a short split in one end so I asked the clients if they would like it left as is or would they like a butterfy and so to todays feature. Today the shelves were taken out and a couple of coats of finish put on, the butterfly was cut in and the slabs sanded and a first coat of finish.
I cut the butterfly and glued it in but I quite liked it when it was sitting proud of the slab, I decided to work it in a little with the card scraper and then gave it a light sand but left the centre up about 2-3mm. The butterfly was also done out of Mango and not a contrasting colour so as not to make too loud a feature out of it.

Oh Ray, your hotter than the Hindenburg and have twice as much hot air
I love doing flutterbys but its not very often I get something I can use them on. Or even less often when you can leave them raised and not dead flat. Second coat of finish tomorrow will realy start to bring it all to life. The fiddleback, flames, chocolate spots birds eye etc will all be dancing in the shedlight
