    Default Queensized Bed

i have been planning on making a queensized bed
im looking for a wood that is dark with a hint of red
i like the look of redgum but everybody i talk to doesnt advise this wood because its soft
what woods do you suggest and would red box be a good type of wood to use?

I'm about to start a bed with Rosewood, it's quite dense so you shouldn't have that problem.

Welcome to the forum TS, Redgum soft? since when? I would happily make a bed out of Redgum.
What sort of design are you looking at?

    Hey,
I'm using red mahogany at the moment, and that has a dark tint to it. Another option is jarrah.

    Hi Tommy!
Redgum would make a nice bed! The colour would be right, and its not soft!!!! But its quite heavy. Machine well, and takes most finishes nicely

Redgum soft? In which universe?! You would need an engine crane to move the bed head.

    How about Tasmanian Myrtle?

    Thumbs up

Some nice brown/red Toona Ciliata would go well.

    Perhaps some recycled Turpentine?

    Red hardwoods

    Some that come to mind:

    Ironbark
    Forest Red Gum
    Grey Gum
    Sydney Blue gum

    All hard. All heavy.

Not neccessarily good furniture timbers. Depends on whether you are looking at fine furniture of the rustic look. River Red Gum would be good too.
