    Default Quicky causes Cradle

Another quicky while still doing the Red Mahogany bookself/wall unit thingy.
This client has a bub on the way, very on the way, bubs ticket reads "arrive this weekend" so, as bub probably won't wait I have the ok from the bookshelf client to pop a quicky rocking cradle in. The client had purchased the plan so I figured good, US plans so thought check Aust Standards and away we go. Only I did the away we go before I did the check with the standards thing, bu$#&*, oh well, I'll work it out. Got the standard (2 one for cots & one for rocking thingys) (now short one arm and a leg) all is good I just have to put extra vertical baby bars in to adjust the gap between them and I'm back on track. Few other minor things but all will be good. So in the pics where I have drilled the first 70ish holes I have to put more in between so the gap ends up 12 - 25mm rather than the 40ish they are now.
All out of Tassie Blackwood, baby bars will be out of Tassie Oak with a little stain to blend them in. Not used to working with a pattern and templates, I usualy only work from my scribbled notes and hand sketches, anyway so far so good.

Not quite Ray, the old vertibra has been acting up a bit slowing me down and I have to go to that crap hole down South for the night, whats it called, oh yeh, Smogney. Will get some more done tomorrow arvo but it will be maybe Tuesday before its done. I still have to drill another 70 holes and cut up 20 lenghts 2.4m lenghts of dowel etc etc. Quickys always lead to little problems, ha, but then they grow up

Only reason Newcastle hasn't smog these days is the steelworks closed down then everyone became beech bums........more often.

I know what you mean Mark having spent many days week's months of my younger years around Tea Garden's, Newcastle it must be hard to leave the sand flies behind

Seems many a vertibre is playing up not just mine LOML's and quiet a few others even young ones

Ok so you'll have a day off trolling the streets of Sydney just make sure Tackhammer stays clear of the stores

Ah an old Tea Gardens man, most of my family are from there and North. My Great grandfather was Hary Legge so I half grew up around Tea Gardens/Myall Lakes/Bulahdelah. Beach/lake fishing, motor bikes, beach buggies, boats all in the good old days before the National Parks took it all.
TH has been down since yesterday spending time with her boys , one has a birthday tomorrow (reason for venturing down). The only! only! reason I am ever happy to go to Smmydney is to go to the wood show. TH is not a shopper, thats me (tools only), she shops about once or twice a year. Mind you I usualy get a call from the bank asking if the credit cards have been stolen. She earns her won money so can spend all she wants

Mark not so much of the old TG a blow in staying with Aunt & Uncle the Simpson's miss them heaps. Cousins now spread around the east coast but believe one at Pindimar. Now thats a name rings a bell HL is he the fellow who was shot or shot someone down TG. Beach buggies, motorbikes, sand groping, operating the punt, swimming with the Dolphins in the river. Mungo Brush camping, rabbiting in the Pines. Teasing Kangaroo Kennedy.

Shame seen as powderpost is coming down 29th August and we are having a GTG then again Rooty Hill can hardly be called Smmydney.

Even better that way she buys her won tools which of course you help her choose and get to use .

Wow Ray, I had forgotten poor old Kanga. Those were the days.

Next lot of pics, 1. marking more holes between the others, I used the pegs as visual indicators when I drilled the holes. 2. glueing up legs. 3. shaping and sanding all the parts. 4 starting to cut the baby bars. 5 both ends cut and ready to glue.

Coming together. You need an extra couple of arms when getting the the top rail on with curves, glue, gently bumping it into place. Still a bit to do, bottom, put plugs in the screw holes, screw the frame together, hang the cradle, a little more sanding, some light stain on the dowels (coffee maybe) and then some Danish Oil.

Then that must leave to plenty of quality of shed time.

I've seen coffee as a filler in turned bowls, be interesting to see how the dowels come up.

I often use coffee, tea etc where I just want some subtle staining or evening out of colour. I used it on those cedar doors I did a while back too.

Almost done, the client is calling in tomorrow afternoon to pick it up. All together, sanded, oiled so tomorrow I just have to take off a few glue spots that showed up on the first coat of Danish (Maloof mix) then another quick top coat and its gone. Didn't worry about staining the bars, the Tasie Oak is not that different to the Blackwood and once oiled looked good. (Hope the client likes it)
