There have been a few interruptions on this job, but I'm back into it at last. I have stripped the old finish off the panels, made up frames for the back and top and finally started putting bits together to see how they look.
This is the basic carcase fitted up dry. The infill on the end panel is some of that expanded steel lattice. Much cheaper than perforated zinc coated sheet and the local steel merchant keeps it in stock. I'll start fitting up the doors and the top. I got some kneelers/footstools from the same original source (the church) and will play with them to perhaps do a floating raised panel type top. I only got two long ones and the rest are short so my options were a bit limited.Last edited by burraboy; 7th June 2012 at 02:23 PM. Reason: proofread twice, post once

Most of the pieces fitted together and out of the workshop at last. Now I have some space in there to work on the top.

I would never have thought to do the thing with the half pipes. The wood look with a bit of shiny steel is fabulous.

I was a bit hesitant about submitting this post after the last one I did stopped you for a year and a half
I really enjoy these types of projects where you are given something to work with and you adapt and make decisions around what's available at the time. I think this job looks great.
I would prefer the double panels at each end were the same timber as the middle "x" , but that's just my opinion.
I remember this thread from when you started, I can't believe it is that long ago. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming. The time we enjoy wasting is not wasted time.

And this is just about it.
The top worked out alright, now its just a bit of a tidy up of the finish in a couple of spots and further down the track I will have a flash of inspiration about the door handles.
