Finish coming soon, just want to be 100% happy with top,& hope for calm day:U Fun is the right word for resin fill, apart from 3mm under on top lip its dead flat. Tempted to quit while Im ahead:U.
Iwas afraid you would say that:CSteve mc32.I will try to build a border a round deficient bit&pour the tiniest bit. It flows fairly slow so heres hoping:U.I just dont want to sand above lures etc & get hazy finish.:o
Why don't you do a small trial pour into a paper cup or something like that and once it's cured start sanding away and see how far you have to go before you're happy with the finish. As I said before, you can go all the way up to 12000 grit and get a perfectly polished face if you want to.
Im a bit sick of dust,& Ive only got to 240:~Mt slab gets sun on it in morning because its on verandah so it loses a bit of colour. Sooner I get FW floor seal on it the better. Wife has promised to help me move slab to best position to start finishing process, her suggestion was move it to Sth Coast & make your mess down there:o
This second coat drying, pretty happy :Ufollowed clawhammers instructions to the letter:2tsup:. Theres some dark bits in the whirls,& some cloudy bits that no amount of sanding will get. They are almost like a bit of carbonization:? All natural so fine with me.:U 1st coat soaked in quickly left it 24 hours .I think Im going to need 5 coats easy:o
Now that's a very pretty piece of wood
Lookin' good :2tsup:
You will be able to spend hours when finsihed, reliving the past 3 weeks of the job.
Don't rest on your laurels, now that you've got the groove going,. do the rest of the house.
Looks great
Greg
Mother nature made the timber Im just bringing out the into the daylight.:D This carbonized bit has got me stumped:no:,its not resin stain I went back to 80 grit but cant shift it:~ Is it possible its chainsaw oil or similiar that soaked in:?I I will get a 3rd coat on tomorrow:2tsup:
Thats looking fantastic Moikel, it will feel SOOOO sexy :sleez: :Uonce you polish it back with the WnD and Steelwool.
That last photo doesnt show it & I think its 2 different things anyway:doh:Its like something melted on timber, its on top side of fill feature so your eye is drawn to it:CI got all other resin bits off no problem so its not resin. Its only over a 10cm area but its over a bit of fiddleback grain:~ that swirls around filled hole. Until I got 1st coat on it wasnt obvious, went back sanded thru the grades but Im just creating a hollow:~ It looked better but when I put next coat on still looks:no:. Its only 2 coats I will sand it back again, then.... very sharp blade + acetone & try to scrape it:?.
Do you mean this bit?

might be a bit that died - bullet hole maybe?
