Great work. I like the choice of timber too.

Thanks WW, timber choice was as usual with me, a match up of clients colour choice (in this case to match an existing Jarah desk), workability, quantity availability, and a firm stance on not wanting to stain. I like to see each timber for what it is in its real colour and beauty. Some finish will make all the difference with Red Hog, the colour and figure will really bloom.

Cradles gone so back to the bookshelves. The shelves are kauri with a facia strip of Red Mahogany, some square cut and some with natural edge. The last photo looks a little odd but I think once upright with some finish on it will look sweet. I have done all the shelves for the unit on the bench and almost done the shelves for the first unit which is just outside the door. So tomorrow it will be, finish the shelves for the first unit and and then make drawers for them both. I am going to finish these two units and deliver them and then do the last two units. The client needs storage and I need workshop space.

I see you've stolen my I.P. and are building your bookcase lying down.

Thing is when you try and put them upright you find out how heavy they are and lie them straight back down again.

    C'mon more shots of progress.
I make things, I just take a long time.

Hey CH, I'm really enjoying your WIP.
Did you get the red hog from the show or did you visit them up the coast?
I got a piece that looks identical to some of yours (got mine from the Sydney show) - it's been good to see how it looks once dressed up, and can't wait to see the finish!

Hi Andy, yes got it from Mal, had it shipped down. Its great looking timber, lovely colour and some very nice figure in it. Mal would have had some at the show. I will have some finish on these by Thursday all going well.

There are four modules, the first three are bookshelf on top with an open shelf area and drawer in the lower section. The fourth has a pigeon hole section at the top for wool storage ( knitting enthuseist) with a work bench to run down the adjacent wall for a couple of meters, storage under the pigeon hole section the same as the other three. I have started the first module. The client also wanted it light, some natural edge some square cut, timber had to match an existing desk. Its Jarrah I think but the Red Mahogany is super close to whatever it is, and its easy to work. drawer bodies will be Tasie Oak with Red Hog fronts. Shelves have to be adjustable. Easy, coupla days bewdiful!! yeh, ok, 4weeks-ish. First batch of photos.
Photos are, the stack or part there of, first blood, M&T joints, holes for shelf pins, glue up top sections, some doweling in cross members, upper and lower sections clamped together, top frame glued together, bottom frame glueup. So far so good
Ahh your such an amazing man Claw in so many ways as always to be expected beautiful work . .One day i will figure out that a hammer and chisel is'nt for scratching my back

A very deep and low bow, thank you Rob, I'm glad someone knows talent when they see it. Mind you, this stuff doesn't look that good in real life, it's all trick photography

Shelves are done for the first two units, a lot of the sanding done so starting on the drawers. The drawer bodys are from 22mm Birds Eye Tasmanian Oak, dovetail joints with Red Hog fronts to go on, 8mm ply drawer bottoms (720 x 470 drawers)

PS will take some better daylight shots of the units with shelves in soon.

Cant wait to see this with some finish on it!!

Love that color, really want to get some. When you call the main timber red hog, what specifically is it?

Looking through my regular suppliers lists they have, Eastern Mahogany and Mahogany Swietenia would it be any of those (fingers crossed)?

    Thanks

Hey Joez, Red Mahogany from Boutique Timbers, Mal Ward. I am itching to get that finish on but have to be patient. I want to deliver the first two over the weekend so finish isn't far off.
