G'day Claw Hama, regards to your Maloof finish, what is terabine and how fast does it speed up the drying?
With the bookcase, which saw 4 coats of Maloof go down and maybe because it was really cold I don't know, but I ended up wiping of the finish after only 10 minutes. Normally I would go the usual 30 minutes before wiping off the residue.

Hey Waldo, Terabine is a Feast Waton adative for oil base paints etc you can add up to 250ml per 4ltrs. I is hard to tell how much you gain but I look at it that anything at all helps when you are trying to get stuff out the door. And with the cold weather its a little hard to say too. I will have to do a test and time each mix. Sorry not much help to you.
Like you say 10 min is probably enough once you get onto the 3rd or 4th coat, then the good hard buff.

Thanks for that. I'm under the pump, if I get the okay on the repair, that I might track it down - depending on cost. Do Bunnies carry it?
Do you wax your stuff? Asking as I normally let the oil cure for 4 weeks before waxing and wonder if this terabine leads to a faster cure time?

Yes it should speed things up but like I said I can't tell you by how much. I don't usualy put wax on my pieces, on tables its the wax that leaves rings apparently so I just stick with the oil. Bunnies in Newcastle don't carry it but they should be able to get it in. Bristol paints in Newcastle is where I usualy get it but any Feast Watson stockist should be able to get it. It might not have as big an effect on the Maloof mix as it already has boiled linseed oil which has driers/hardeners in it. But I figure when time is of the essence add a bit anyway I usualy put about 60ml ltr as per directions.

Terabine has commonly been used in paints and such as a hardener and drier for years.
Bunnies should have it but if not give Feast and Watson a ring or try somewhere like another paint firm.

The correct spelling I believe is "Terebene" and is made by many manufacturers
Terebene [ˈtɛrəˌbiːn]n (Chemistry) a mixture of hydrocarbons prepared from oil of turpentine and sulphuric acid, used to make paints and varnishes and medicinally as an expectorant and antiseptic
Apparently has more than one use.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Yes, "Terebine" I am glad my woodwork is better than my spelling. Well I hope it is. I did actualy buy it at Bunnies once, I went back a couple of weeks later after they had redesigned the layout, couldn't find it. I asked one of the zombies where it was now and he said he had never heard of it, he checked with his zombie supervisor and he said they had never stocked it Ok thank you, and went to Bristol paints.

Maybe I'll skip Bunnies and go to the paint shop on the other side of the road.

Maloof mix
Claw Hamma - I've searched the forums so as not to ask a stupid question, but can't find your original post outlining the make up of the magic 'Maloof mix', so as my Dad used to say, "one more time for the late comers", could you give us the formula again please.
Shine on you crazy diamond!

No problem Wavey, 30% of each, polyurethane (or estapol or varnish), boiled linseed oil and tung oil. I also add the touch of Terebine. He used 3 - 4 coats (slop it on leave for 30min and buff off) alowing a day or so to dry between each coat. He also used a wax finsih over this for his chairs etc but not on tables as it is the wax that leaves the rings if you put something hot on it.
Couple of shots from today, drawer fronts on another coat of oil and a prototype drawer pull for the client to check out tomorrow.
