Red Mahogany bookcase thingy
Ah moving right along, out with the old leaf job and into the next one. This is a bookcase, wall storage unit thingy. Mostly out of Red Hog but with some Kauri in the shelves with red hog natural edge pieces on some of the shelves and sprinkled through the job. There are four modules, the first three are bookshelf on top with an open shelf area and drawer in the lower section. The fourth has a pigeon hole section at the top for wool storage ( knitting enthuseist) with a work bench to run down the adjacent wall for a couple of meters, storage under the pigeon hole section the same as the other three. I have started the first module. The client also wanted it light, some natural edge some square cut, timber had to match an existing desk. Its Jarrah I think but the Red Mahogany is super close to whatever it is, and its easy to work. drawer bodies will be Tasie Oak with Red Hog fronts. Shelves have to be adjustable. Easy, coupla days bewdiful!! yeh, ok, 4weeks-ish. First batch of photos.
Photos are, the stack or part there of, first blood, M&T joints, holes for shelf pins, glue up top sections, some doweling in cross members, upper and lower sections clamped together, top frame glued together, bottom frame glueup. So far so good

I'm bringing in a couch, the floor is too cold to sit on this time of year. I really want to see the pidgeon holes as your description has me intrigued. I've loved seeing the interesting designs you have come up with recently

You are a keen little bunch, I'll do my best to entertain you
Would realy like to go nuts with this one but not sure the owner is up to it.
They are also away at the moment and I am having trouble catching up with them. I'll have to go gently for a while.

Watching with much interest. Looks as though it could weigh a ton.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Fascinating! I know so little about Aussie timbers and it's good to see how they turn out.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Hey Guys, WW, Red Mahogany is quite heavy, still has typical Aust cranky grain but is or feels softer to cut. I drill holes first for mortices and then bearly need to use a mallet to trim them out, much is just by hand. Colour in this case is almost identical to Red Gum and Jarrah. Colour as with most can vary a lot.

Right Claw, between you, Woodwould and Derek showing these WIPs my shed time is nearly down to ZERO. So STOP IT.
Did my back in last sunday preparing the shed for the next project (daughters double bed and accessories). So no shed time for a little while.
So I have the worlds most comfortable chair, an esky full of beer and that's me just over there on the left watching with great interest.
Keep it up guys.

Hi Greg, yes Mals timber, is there any other what date is he back? I have enough for now but may need some more.
TB, bad luck with the back, as soon as mine twinges or I even think I have done damage I pop a couple of Naprogesics (yes the ones for period pain) and it just doesn't happen. Of course it depends on the problem but it works for me, might be worth a try or just more beer

Mal's back
Mal's back is in a bad way as are his knees.......
But.... he will be away for another 2 weeks then back into it with Agquip and then Canberra wood show.
He has some more red hog up there.
I haven't commented on the leaf before, but that is spectacular.
I can see board room table requests from the Forest Industry or Boral if you lobby hard enough.
Regards
Greg
