    Default Small Red Oak Cabinet

This is a simple red oak cabinet that serves as a home for an old friend. I consider it a trifling made from salvaged log that I hand split and then air dried. This log has some beautiful graphics being split it is perfectly on the quarter, then it has spalting and fiddleback. I had a single good board of this stuff remaining which I then resawed and bookmatched and then dovetailed together. The doors are made from a small scrap piece I resawed into four pieces of veneer. I edge joined two pieces together, then used the slope in the grain to guide and place asymmetrical saw cut two form the two doors. The doors have a core of plywood and the whole thing was vacuum bagged. I then had to fit the edge lipping to the door with all the angles which was fun. Brusso hinges. The doors pulls are some Blackwood parquetry flooring I salvaged and has a beautiful rich chocolate colour. I finished the cabinet with a light French polish.

I love how the door opens asymmetrically with the negatives space it creates. I call this piece kawa 川
    the Japanese name for river.

Nice selection of timber and I think the doors make the piece more interesting
