Home safe. Clearly the hooker reference was because I'd watched the rugby on saturday night.......
Not only didn't I get to call in on Claw Hama but Scribbly Gum and Mal didn't get any ANZACS this trip either. Today however was a bit of a chore. I left Sawtell at 5.15 am, made it to Sydney City in time for a 1pm meeting ... but didn't get out until after 6.30.
love ya work CH,
fletty

Mal is Bali or somewhere at the moment, he doesn't need Anzacs. Glad you made it home safe mate. I had years of crazy trips, long distance high speed etc. I like shed pace now, standing still or slower

So I guess I got more work done since Fletty bypassed me. Did a bit of maintenance in the morning and then go stuck into my cutting list for the booksheves.
Also dug out my next piece of carving timber. A rather large piece of Silky Oak that I picked up on the side of the road a while back. Just something to do so i don'r get board

Today, board !!, and more boards, I finished cutting the slabs to approx lengths for the top modules of the bookshelf. I then started cutting them to width. Just a couple to go where the boards will be joined together to make wider boards. So tomorrow a little more cutting and then fire up the thicknesser. Also been upping the security on the workshop with additional locks and a small door mounted alarm (reed switch type) also added a smoke detector.

Hi CH, Have you had trouble or just being proactive with security?

Proactive, the list of quality handmade tools as well as power tools, stock, etc has been growing and wouldn't like to loose the time and money on trying to replace them. There hasa been a bit of activity in the neighbourhood too. Nothing too serious just young punks who think they have the right to take your hard earned fruits.

Trimmed a couple up, glued up a couple of boards that had to be joined, then thicnessed them all.
Final jointing of edges, fine adjustment and notching of the boards for the first module. Construction is like the Revolver, simple glue and screw, these things are almost like movie sets. I just have to decide on what moulding/routing would look the best. Oh sorry Waldo for haveing LN's and other things on the bench. Timber is a mix of Silky Oak and Camphor.

Dear Diary, today the first module of the hide me bookcase came together. Glued and pined all the compoonents together then went around and put the screws in. Very quick and easy. Went out to Mr P& W and picked up the ply for the back so number one is all done. Started No2 this afternoon, it will be ready for glue up in the morning.

Mr Claw she's looking a bit ruff and some mould with in that won't do books much good.
Love the grain, the staggered shelves awaiting fitting

Hi Ray, this is more scruff like before. The outside isn't seen, basicly a built in once I get it on site. The inside and edges will again be painted in chocolate or Black Japan to emulate an old dark stained bookshelf. These pieces rely more on the detail that is then painted over to make it look neglected and abused. It can be a little tricky to get the look right sometimes. You probably can't pick it up in these photos but some of the edges are rounded and some have a beading on them. There will most likely be a brass strip, bar or angle run along the lower protuding shelf where a ladder will run and once full of colourful books you don't see much of it anyway. And again these pieces realy are just set design. There are no cut joints, just glue nails and screws. I will tack on a bit more detail later as well I would think. Still lots of fun to make.
Had a visit from a forumite today (Hi Barry) Wun4us was in town doing a job for his daughter and needed a bit of hide glue. I was able to help him out and we had a good yarn for a while.
Hmm time to count sheep or dovetails or something, catch up with you later.

Dear Claw Hama
It was nice to hear from you concerning the situation that you are in. This is not uncommon and you should not feel that you are alone. After looking at the progress that you have made it shows some great strength and resolve. You may not feel like this at the moment due to the pressure that you have mention in your previous mail.
I would note that you are seeing another supplier with Mr P&W. This is very encouraging to read and I do support you in this venture.
Looking forward to the next stage of your build.
Signed as always
Your Dairy.
